Ponce was discovered by Juan Ponce de Leon's great-grandson Loiza Ponce de Leon back in 1692. Ponce remains the second largest city in Puerto Rico with a population of nearly 200,000. Ponce is well known for its 19th century Creole architecture, its art museum, riveting Carnival, which features musicians, parades, floats, and dancers, or its annual November event, the Fiesta Nacional de Bomba y Plena where dancers and drummers challenge each other. The sightseeing attractions include the Tibes Indian Ceremonial Park and Hacienda Buena Vista.
